How to select/design SUBSEA TIEBACK system ?

Hello,
I am working on subsea tieback design as part of coursework for graduate studies. I would really appreciate if anyone could look through the problem and guide me towards solving some of the issues.

I attached the project(tieback problem) information below, please let me know how to approach to solving the various issues involved


1. There are different components in subsea tieback what is the right order of designing components

Tubing, Tubing hanger, Well head, Production Tree, jumpers and manifolds?

2. How to select what subsea tree I should use? say I selected a 4.5" tubing, how do i go about choosing other components that completes the whole tieback scenario?

3. Are there a freeware programs available to do tubing stress analysis?

4. Are are any papers or references that can guide me on how to design/choose various components involved in subsea tieback?


5. Can anyone provide me information on subsea systems currently working on Guillemot North west and Bittern fields?

I have a lot more questions to ask this forum, would really appreciate any advice folks here can give me.

Thanks for your response. The problem I was tasked to work on is no different than what we usually do on our projects. Its just that I am a Floating Systems Engineer (12yrs exp) and trying to work my way into the Subsea Engineering field, hence the triviality of the questions I am asking in this forum.

As I mentioned in my post, I tried looking up the SS Eng Handbook and its more like a manual than a text book. I was hoping a few engineers in this forum must have managed a couple of subsea tieback projects before and I am hoping they could share ideas/concepts based on their experience.

OK, think about the installation order of the items. The well will be completed and left on the seabed with the means of attaching the tree. So, the completion is designed first. The choice of tree is governed by factors which have been outlined in a response to your other posting below. Wellhead and tree design will be governed by ISO 13628-4 (API Spec 17D). The jumper will be the last item to consider as it will not be fabricated until the tree and manifold are in situ and the metrology has been undertaken. Manifold design can be addressed by reference to ISO 13628-15.
