Hello, everyone:

I am making a numerical modelling of soil-structure. Between soil and foundation(slad) a distinct material(mixture of sand and gravel) with 20cm thick exist. could you tell me how to set up the numerical modelling of this material?

The users of FLAC, PLAXIS or SIGMA/W will be the most suitable repliers.

What are you modeling? What do you expect to learn? What have you done so far?

geotechman:

I agree with Focht3's questions. The constitutive model that you select for the analysis and the amount of effort that you expend is highly dependent upon the nature of the question that you are trying to answer. If the question(s) are simple, then perhaps a simple model will suffice.

I remember reading in the FLAC manual some advice that I thought was very good. In effect it suggested that it is always best in numerical modeling to move from the simplest to the most complex.

I found many times that simple models with reasonable estimates for parameters can be very powerful.

I wish you the best in your modeling efforts.
