Hello friends, I have a bit of leftover BSE32 oil. Minimum I could buy was 5L and this was still too much. So now I have some leftover expensive oil. The 5L cost about $200. It says on the bottle to use immediately and not to store. At this price, I can't quite bring myself to throw away the remainder... Is there any way that this oil can be safely stored for future use? It is currently in a square, tin container with a pull-out plastic nozzle.

Some ideas I had was to:
- Flush with N2, or Ar
- Store the entire container inside of a dessicator
- Transfer to an air tight container of some sort

What do you all do with left over BSE oil?

The concern with storage has to do with moisture absorption and perhaps oxidation or just dissolving of oxygen over time. Keeping it in a tightly sealed container, preferably with little headspace should be fine. Dessicant and nitrogen blanket would be great, but probably overkill.

The main issue to be aware of is "breathing" of containers. That is, even the tiniest of air leak will mean the container is not sealed. Metal cans are good protection from oxygen and moisture, plastics are not. Mason jars are good alternatives.

The container is metal, but the pouring nozzle is one of those plastic pull-out types. I am afraid of water sneaking in through this plastic nozzle.
