Dear all,
The last question I had was answered very helpfully on this forum, I am hoping you can help me again!
Basically I have some problems understanding how to get output at a point other than the default integration point.
I have a model of a pipeline using PIPE31H elelements (thick-wall section formulation). The default stress output for this type of element is at four section points; located at the cross sections of the XY axes with the nominal diameter 'r'. In radial coordinates, this would be (0 degrees from vertical, radius 'r'), (90 degrees, 'r'), (180 degrees, 'r'), (270 degrees, 'r'). I'm sure you understand what I mean. At these points, I can easily extract stresses, displacements, whatever, using XY data or field data plots.
However, since I have thick walls in my pipe (yes, I really need thick-wall formulation), I should have output at much more point; both in radial and in circumferential direction. According to Abaqus documentation, there are 8x3 = 24 Section Points available for this type of element with thick walls. How can I access the stresses at the other 20 points? Do I have to request output at these points, or is it something that may be calculated during post-processing?
It seems a straightforward question, but I can't seem to figure it out.
Also, am I right in saying that integration points are located axially on a beam elements, and the section points are located on the specified beam/pipe-section perpendicular to the main element axis? Perhaps my general understanding of the modelling process is simply lacking..
