How to tell if the transformer Core Form or Shell Form, just by look

5-limb shell form are generally lower and wider than a 3-limb core type of similar rating. No hard and fast rules though.

Bit difficult to find out from outside.Generally, it can be said that shell form transformer,for the same rating, will be of less height,but with more footprint.Of course if you can have a look of inside through inspection cover, it can be easily found out. In core form, core will be vertical and inshell form it is horizontal,covering the rectangular windings.
 
Five limbs huh? Now that is just boasting! [wink]
