how would i build a boundary alarm

I am not that adept in electronics but I want to build a system that incorporates a physical boundary and a unit that would be worn by a person that would remotly activate an alarm. The alarm is to be activated only after the unit has passed directly over the boundary, any help will be greatly appreciated.
