Hi there;

We've got some 1940s era copper phase conductors (500 MCM) up on a 230 line that have solid CU exterior strands but hollow CU internal strands. Nobody really knows anything about it, so I was hoping to see if any Eng Tips users are familiar with this conductor. Maybe have a spec sheet from the original manufacturer?

If it helps, we've got other older copper conductors in different parts of the system including the Anaconda twisted I-beam.

Thanks in advance.

The Type HH/Heterodyne cable is interesting but is different than what I'm looking for. Type HH is completely hollow, with lapped and helically wound outer conductors that ends up making it look kind of like a pipe.

The stuff we have is generally just a stranded copper cable, but the individual interior strands are each hollow. I just found an old brochure that clears up the mystery, though!

The conductor is called "Phelps Dodge Copper Products", or P.D.C.P., Hollow Conductor. I'll try to post it once I get the scan done.

I have a piece of that Hover Dam cable on my desk.
