Hi,

I'm looking for a good start for researching the Topics Subject and thought here would be a good place to get suggestions. I will try to keep this thread going as me and a team of mine prepare to design a Hydraulic Turbine for a Mechanical Engineering Senior Design project. I was wondering if anyone knew where we could research the topic subject, for example: good textbooks, manuals, videos, companies, previous designs, and anything that you may deem necessary. I have found some good books, but anything would help. I'm not asking how it's done, just suggestions on research materials. Thank you.

The first reference material that came to mind is stuff that deals with the history of automotive automatic transmissions, which tend to include hydraulic turbines. The transmissions also include a lot of other stuff, and the books that are easily found will not be real strong on theory.

Of course the Kaplan, Francis, and Pelton turbines used in hydroelectric power generation have had much more materal published in an accessible form, including as examples in textbooks, with enough math to make anyone's head hurt.

Re:your queries on Hydraulic Turbine Calculation, Analysis, and Design Methods, kindly look for the book
entitled Hydroelectric Power Handbook by Creager and Justin. If possible hire consultants for that particular
endeavor. Mike is right you have to be good in mathematics to undergo with so many complicated calculations on
this subject. There are tools anyway such as Mathcad, Excel etc. Good luck.

Attached is a sample calculation.
