I have an ASME part (U2) being fabricated. It is a change in materials and thickness from the original. The part will be welded to the existing Pressure Vessel in the field by an R-stamp organization. The work on the vessel as a whole will be an alteration.
Does the part manufacturer need to hydro test the part per ASME Section VIII Div 1?
Assume the new part is flanged and bolts up to an existing vessel. It is considered an alteration due to the new flanged part being a different material/thickness. There is no welding in the field. Does the part need to be hydro tested by the part manufacturer?
In both cases, if the part manufacturer is not responsible for the hydro test, who would be responsible for the integrity of the part should it fail in the field.
