Hydrotest Piping w/o Deadweight Tester

Dear All,

I need to Hydrotest of 38 mtrs of 4" underground pipeline, for which i want to avoid bringing of deadweight tester.

can somebody help me on this and is there any statdard which specifies minimum length of the underground pipeline to use dead weight tester.

Design codes do not specify this level of requirement (e.g. B 31.4)

This is normally contained in specific company specifications and standards which they require you to follow, so this can only really be addressed to your client or internal company technical deviation process.

Yeah, I'm also sort of curious why you explicitly want to avoid using one? People performing hydro inexperienced with them or availability/cost issues? I understand technology has improved and all but I suppose I would consider them as one of the more "calibrated" devices you could use.

Dead weight testers are most commonly used to calibrate pressure gauges. Then these calibrated gauges are used for field work.
 
You can use a properly calibrated gauge that is currently calibrated.
 
Better yet use an appropriate pressure transducer and a laptop sampling at about 50Hz to record the entire pressurization profile. As a bonus it shows you the moment a failure occurs even if it's a tiny pin-hole. Time sync a second one at the other end of the line and they will show you exactly where the leak occurs.

There is no minimum length of underground pipeline that will specify a use of Dead weight tester. A dead weight tester is the most accurate pressure sensing equipment depending on the condition of weights.
