Hi,

I know that Hypermesh is unitless, however I have a question. I've imported a model from CATIA and the software has converted the lengths and therefore a length that measures 10 inches in CATIA is coming up as 250.4 in Hypermesh. To put this right, I added a scale factor of 1/25.4, which corrected all measurements so that they are showing the values in inches. My question is this - when I added the scale factor, was I just scaling the geometry, or was I scaling everything? I'm not sure whether I need to input my material properties in pounds and inches, or if I need to convert them into metres and kilograms, or inches per kilogram.....
I hope this question makes sense!

Thanks in advance

Lisa

That is always confuse, but, however, you need to make a consistent manage of the units you're using
In this case if you make a scale factor, it doesn't mean that you are modifying the properties of the part, you are just moving the geometry, therefore you are no making modifications to material, properties, etc

Be sure to use the units you need in any solver you wanna run your solution, for example, in OptiStruct you need to use kg, mm, N, ton/mm3 and MPa, LS Dyna uses GPa kN and kg/mm3
