I am grinding .013"-.015" of hard chrome plating off a spindle that is 33" long and 3.5" dia with a finish of 12 micro @ +/- .001". I have been grinding for almost 10 years. The last 6 grinding on Warner/Swasey, Cincinnati, and Mitsubishi od grinders. Everything i've learned has been on my own, as far as speeds/feeds. The W/S's and Cincinnati's are what I grind these spindles on. I use a "pink" wheel. The best i can do is a 20 min cycle. Is there anything I can do to speed up the machines without damaging the chrome?

I would get Norton , 3m or Bay state and discuss you problem as that is a llot of Cr tobeing rmoved. When we had to grind spindles we used a lot of Borazon Wheels for tool steel and for tolerancingon Cr plated spindles we used Diamond Grinding. Again we never took remoedthat much metal. I've had some pretty good advice from full line distributers like Georgia Grinding. A lot of times they will know of a similar application.
