Are there any ways to freelance contract with AutoCAD/Drafting skills while still in trade school. I’m supposed to graduate with a AutoCAD Drafting Certification in 15 months.

I don’t really have a portfolio. I started making like two Auto Wiring diagrams however i feel that was a waste of time because Car Factories aren’t anywhere near memphis. I asked for guidance from a floor plan company and i’ve emailed and been to the business once. The owner won’t be back in the country for 2-3 weeks so i gotta wait.

I also realize that AutoCAD is always being outsourced on sites like UpWork/Fiverr.

I just want to go to (select industry) company office ask to speak with a manager and be able to offer a price on me making DWG files/Bill of materials. I got all these Autodesk apps for a year and there very expensive so i want to utilize it the best way possible

I'm sure somewhere in the world there is someone who needs AutoCAD done by someone with no practical experience, but there are a million undergraduate engineers with the same idea competing for that job. My experience with outsourced cheap CAD is that in essence I was having to train the guy to do the CAD to any reasonable level, which took just as long as me doing it myself, was far more annoying, and slow.

oh so as far as a portfolio what do you think is practical to use to get specific jobs. I guess it’s hard to just stick to one engineering path. I’m already scared A.I gonna screw me over. Right now i have a floorplan i was working on trying to make. I’m having a not great time with it…Whereas on the automotive side i’m working on blender and can see improvement to the point i’m not making car parts and wheels.
I realize the cars aren’t what i want in my portfolio (as far as career is concerned) I considered making a wiring diagram i found in a manual for the EG Civic. However i felt this probably already is online and no company really needs me to make it. Like it’s already made. I’d want to work with inventor and make some parts that make older cars drive better/safer but i honestly don’t know how the inventing process would go for this type of thing. Plus i’m tryna get a “real job” I just consider designing cars as my form of art. That’s why i got into 3D or 2D in the first place

ok so i’m gonna be working with a floor plan company once the owner gets back from out of the country. Already have been talking with him about AutoCAD through Email and seen the process of autoCAD be worked on in his office and got to speak with one of the employees
He told me he’ll be back in like 3 weeks and since then i’ve been tryna at least get somewhat decent on AutoCAD. Just started a random “floorplan” off google and it’s already very tough. Though i am learning the terminology and where working on AutoCaD in trade school too (making a fire pit) I successfully made a 4 side 3D model but it was very basic. I’m still tryna get the book that i need for the course so it’s getting tough. I hope it’s not expensive maybe i’ll just have to ask my classmates if i can borrow there’s to work on it until i can get my own. But it sucks because i don’t like talking to people. anyways attempted to make my car’s wiring diagram but considering that AutoCAD utilizes exact dimensions i got a long road ahead of me

...AND if you are "tryna" do anything to make a positive impression on decision-makers, you have a high percentage chance being a "tryna" the rest of your life.

I consider myself fortunate, that in the last semester of my high school senior year, 64 years ago, Mrs. DeTurk drilled English grammar into her class of "sorry seniors". Consequently, this freshman engineering student was one of the few who didn't need remedial English three months later.

You might be the brightest engineer in your class, but if you cannot communicate by either writing or speaking proper English clearly, concisely and completely without "tryna," I fear that "tryna" is going to be the go-to method in your toolbox and you're just going to survive.
