I need 500 Xicor X20C16J NOVRAMs for ongoing production of an existing product, and I would appreciate any good suggestions. Thanks.

You neglected to tell the whole story. The part was EOL'd...the last buy was July 31, 2003:

You missed it by a couple weeks. I've been there before. The first thing you need to do is to call your local Xicor rep or sales office and ask/plead to place a late buy. Hope you've been a good customer...

Next, call all authorized Xicor distributors and see if they have parts.

If that doesn't work get a recent copy of EBN and call the brokers in the back of the magazine...but be careful

Finally, fix your business processes and relationships with your suppliers so you don't miss or fail to react to future PCN and EOL notices.

Been there, done that. Result: no satisfaction or parts. I am working outside the box by posting my desperate message on the eng-tips site. The whole story has many trite and boring details but it is not complicated; ie, I need parts. Thanks for the reply but I still seek some good advice (ie, price and delivery or leads, I am too old and stupid to benefit from anything else.

Doesn't your procurement group (or buyer) have any contacts at all? Favorite brokers? Put out an RFQ on Partminer ( - they have 8 of the -45 in stock according to their website) and Future Electronics has 30 of the -55 in stock, again according to Partminer. Scour the web...get back issues of EBN and find more brokers. My advice regarding price: don't worry about it; be prepared for pain.

Get in touch with me - see link below to our website; a partner of ours is (among other things) a broker and I can put you in touch with them. They say:

It looks like this comes in a -35, -45 and -55. There are components available in the market.

Usbid deals with out-of-production parts. Look at Also i think that Xicor is not only solution, as other manufacturers (such as Atmel and Samsung} may make compatible chips.

One thing to try is the many component repackaging and test houses, such as Rochester and Eltek. These companies may be able to get hold of the bare die and then package them up in a format suitable for use on your product.

If on the other hand bare die isn't available either, these companies along with others such as Semelab may be able to produce an emulated part based on a bigger memory or newer technology.

Hope that helps
