I think it should be possible

In the company I work for they want to have number of parts needed for assy to be also specified on detail dwg.

For example on PIN.slddwg there should be a note saying: 2 required.

I know that QUANTITY appears automatically on the BOM of the assy dwg.

Is it possible to somehow "link" that quantity from the assy back to detail dwg, so the next time I increase the number of PINs on assy from 2 to 3, the PIN.slddwg note will also automatically show: 3 required

Thanks in advance.

Basically the answer is no, SW does not have that feature. Quantities required are normally called up by "Manufacturing Engineering" or "Planning" (or an equivalent) and listed per a work order or traveller or ???. The main reason being that any component could be used in other products and require different quantities.

However, Handleman posted an excellent workaround in thread559-150852

jacek0841,

Another option (although it is really on the edge of being absurd) would be to insert your assembly outside the drawing border in each detail drawing, balloon the part with its quantity, turn off the leader and circle border, then move the balloon inside the drawing view.

Regg, thanks, I tought of it too, but of course it becomes a pure madness and absurd as you remarked if you have an assy of 100 parts and you have to do it the hard way :-( :-(

Not to mention the fact that the size of all detail dwgs would become hudge too ...

Thanks to all for the replies.

jacek0841,

Well your question was if it were possible, not if it was practical! Even doing it with in context relations is not the most practical either; you still have to open the assembly to get the quantity to update.
