I keep seeing That steam tracing and steam jacketing are not included in the India Boiler Regulation 1950.

Can anyone show me how they can come to this conclusion using the actual code? i really need to get out of IBR requirements but need a good leg to stand on to convince customers.

Dear ENG2194,

Hope you are not an IBR guy. Most of them are obnoxious and corrupt, unfortunately.

Anyway, as per the original IBR definition, steam tracing and jacketing do come under IBR. But as we all know, if the contractor keeps IBR in good humour, he prefers to look or not to look.

Regards.

What is the reason for high pressure steam tracing? Most of the applications of process heating or tracing, we have, usually require not more than 3.5 barg. I fully agree with DS.

So you're saying steam tracing typically doesn't apply because its typically below the required pressure, but if the design pressure of the steam tracing system is higher than 3.5 barg IBR would apply?

Not by rule. Depends on the Inspector. It is better to get their approval in initial stages. I see good talent nowadays.
