ICC Reinforced Concrete Exam

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has taken that exam recently and how strict Pearson Vue is on what reference material they allow into the test. I realize the Icc Bulletin mentions what references the test is based on, but wondered if the test center will allow 3 ring binders in of the pertinent astm copied standards ? The ASTM compulation SP71 that sells for a couple of hundred bucks has different years of revision in it for the pertinent test methods anyways .

Will they allow a 2006 code book instead of the 2009 . I know what changes were made between the two books in regards to what should be on the test and have hand written the notes in the 2006 book .

Any other tips or insight would be appreciated . I have taken the ICC Soils Special Inspector and passed, so if anyone has any questions about that test , let me know ....

I took the test about 2 weeks ago. They didn't give me too much hassle. I had "consolidated" some of the standards into the 7-ring CBC binder, and took in 2009 CBC, ACI 318-08, ASTM C Volume, and this new "Special Instructor Model" manual. They didn't scrutinize the reference too much, just informed me that tabs had to be permanent and no "loose" material was allowed. Thy're not going to know, or care, which editionof what Code you have IMHO

Update:

A friend of mine took the test last week; he made a 78 on the Code and a 68 on the Plan Reading Section, which wasn't enough to pass (it takes 75%/75% Code/Plan Reading). He called Pearson VUE to ask to review his test; since he was within a certain "percentile range" of passing, he has been granted permission to come in and review his test ($75); also, he doesn't have to wait until 6 mos. after his first test date to retest (this was his second try); he has been rescheduled to retake the test the end of September.

So, if someone takes the test and is surprised that they failed, ask for a review. BTW, this isn't the same test as a few years ago; it is harder. If you don't read multistory blueprints regularly, you are at a severe disadvantage. The head of the Construction Technology Department at Ventura College informed my friend that it takes an average of 4 tries to pass the current test.

Went in for the exam and as you mentioned reggeo , they did not scrutinize to bad . They kinda questioned the ACI Grade 1 book a little . I was using an older Special Inspector Model Program guide and they let that in .

With a lot of the standards being printed electronically, that is an acceptable form as long as binded up and tabbed.

Reggeo, Do you know Carl D over there at Ventura College. I just finished his course last semester. Very smart guy for sure.

Yes, I know Carl Danko pretty well. He's one of the best instructors I ever had. He gave another student and myself extra tutoring
on reading plans after the ICC manual course was over, pro bono. Which class did you take from Carl at VCCC last semester? Was it the Tuesday evening
class for Reinforced concrete based on the 2009 ICC Manual?...If so, we probably would recognize each other!

Did you take the ICC Reinforced Concrete Inspector at Pearson Vue in Westlake? What did you think of the quality of the plans? BTW,

Hey there Drew ,

Sorry for the slow response but have not been on here in a while . Yes, we were in the same Tuesday evening class at VCC. I was the guy that was moving to the Portland area .We ended up moving and I took the test at a site over here and got through it . The plans they had here were pretty good quality . I tried to page Carl once and never was able to get through to him .

Hope all is well and work is good. Starting to rain here so might be a long winter lol .

Hey Bill,

Congratulations! Joe Guttierez, another fellow classmate of Cark Danko's course, passed the ICC test about a month ago; he is studying for the ACI test now.
We were both hoping you would continue your ReinCon studies and become an inspector.

I took and passed the Los Angeles Deputy COncrete Inspector Test, I am now a registered Deputy Concrete inspector for the City.
I just did my first reinCon job 2 weeks ago, it was a small deck job in Bel Air. I made cylinders and performed a slump test; I was getting flashbacks to 1977 North Carolina
where I was a concrete/soil tech then just out of school.

Hey Guys,

I took the exam today and passed...before taking it every one was saying its difficult to pass. But I found it easy if you prepare for it.

Regarding the plans session; I finished it within 1 hr and 15 min. I have been seen much difficult plans on job sites...So if you are familiar with structural drawings and how to read it trust me you will pass.

none of the test are really hard if you take the pre test course on the icc web page. the hardest part will be the blue prints, and they do have mistake ion them, so instead of trying to get 100, answer the easy question first to get the required passing and then go back to hard questions
