They claim it will, and it isn't supposed to be pushed through as fast as 8 was. This will also be the last I-deas only release. The release after this will be combined with UG.

I have been using version 9 for a month now and it is still the same miserable product that it has always been. They are numerous small enhancements that should have been there a long time ago. Version 8 was always stable for me on UNIX and still was pretty goo when I switched to Window 2000. Version 9 has crashed many, many times for me. Fortunately this is the last version of this product. I use Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics as well as I-deas. I-deas is a waste of time and money compared to Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics. If you can stay with version 8 you may be better off that updaing.

Hi,

I attended the user conference for Version 9, the only useful thing I found for modeling is the combination of Master Assembly and Master Modeler, the rest of useful new things are for CAE.

You lucky dogs! At least you get to use the Mercedes of CAD products (but some people like their AMC's). I changed companies and we use Pro/E. It takes forever to go through several concept trades - unless, of course I want to go back to the 70's and use pencil and paper (as most of the Pro/E literature suggests).

Yeah, there might be a few issues with Version 9 on Windows2000, but it's likely a W2000 problem - you should switch to XP. But my understanding is that version 9 is supposed to have a lot of little enhancements that would have been nice to have had a while ago, before they kowtowed to the stupid ProE 2-way associativity (I never want a change on a drawing to change a part in an assembly - that may end up not allowing the assembly to regenerate, but I digress). Several enhancements are customer (read Ford)-driven.

I-Deas 9.0 is not supported on Windows XP, you will get no help from SDRC, or PLM/whatever if you run Windows XP and I-Deas together. VERY BAD IDEA.
