IEC 92-305 Battery question 1

Hi all,

I need hints on how to understand chapter 6.2 in the IEC 92-305. Its about batteries. The first sentence reads:" When a battery is floated on the line with a resistor in series, all connected apparatus shall be capable of withstanding the line voltage to earth or be disconnected."

I am sorry I just dont understand what they mean. If I have something connected to line voltage....what has the fact if I have a battery connected or not to do with it ?
What do they mean by apparatus ?

I am at a total loss here....

Any one got a clue ?

Hi there,

the thing is, that the nominal voltage of a battery is not as high as the charging-voltage.
So if you charge your battery with the higher voltage, then you have to disconnect all devices that would be damaged by this higher voltage.
For example:
If you charge an 24V-block with 29V then all devices with 10..30V input-range can remain connected. A device with 22..26V input range should be disconnected.
That's it.
