Hi,

I have the question about the IEC standard kW rating since I got the proposed motor rating 380kw instead of 400 kW and 420kW instead of 450kW.

As I check with the European well-known motor manufacturers e.g. ABB, Siemens, their standard motor kW rating seems to be standardized and are the same such as ...,315, 355, 400, 450 kW,...etc.

Is this manufacturer's standard rating are the same as IEC standard rating or frame size or not ? I also have seen IEC60034-12 shows the rated kW differently from these European manufacturers.

I am not sure what standard for which the kW rating according to these European manufacturers are based on ? can anyone tell me about this ?

Thank you,

The standard you're looking for is IEC 60072-1, specifically Table 7, which has the preferred output values. These ratings are the same as the manufacturer standard ratings, 11, 15, 22, 30, 37 kW, etc.

However, sometimes manufacturers will give you their ratings as mechanical power at the shaft, which is the standard motor kW multiplied by the motor efficiency. They usually provide this in hp, but this may be what's happening in your case.

The 315, 355, 400... series of numbers you listed looks more like frame sizes rather than output ratings.

Do you size your IEC starter on horsepower or based on the ultization category. For example for pump motors we use AC-3 ratings as there is typically not anymore than 3 to four starts per hour.

They could be either frame numbers or output ratings. From IEC 60072-1, the complete list of standard frame numbers from 56 to 400:

56, 63, 71, 80, 90, 100, 112, 132, 160, 180, 200, 225, 250, 280, 315, 355, 400

And preferred primary series output ratings from 1.1kW to 1000kW:

1.1, 2.2, 3.7, 5.5, 7.5, 11, 15, 18.5, 22, 30, 37, 45, 55, 75, 90, 110, 132, 150, 160, 185, 200, 220, 250, 280, 300, 315, 335, 355, 375, 400, 425, 450, 475, 500, 530, 560, 600, 630, 670, 710, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950, 1000
