It is required to replace the old firetube A-106gr. B WITH PIPE API 5L (IN STOCK ) as a material for firetube for heater treater (vessels that contain liquids produced from wellheads. Heat is introduced to the liquids through the use of a natural gas or hydrocarbon liquid burner that is mounted inside of a flanged firetube assembly that projectes into the vessel. The firetube assembly typically consists of a flat, round or obround pressure retaining cover (one of the vessels main bolted closures) that is penetrated by a U-tube which houses the burner and directs combustion gases to a vertical, atmospheric exhaust stack external to the vessel).
IS IT ALLOWED ???
IF NOT , what is the recommended material for the firetube ???

You may verify the existing vessel design drawing and Code doc, such as ASME BPVC, for the proper material of the firetube of the Heater, and confirm it with the pressure vessel Inspector for the material replacement. I am not sure that API 5L pipe is qualified as SA106-B fire tubes used in the Heater.

API 5L is not allowed in Sec VIII Div. 1
I have built many of these, all firetubes were SA-106B.

When you ask: "Is it allowed" ? it implies that you have no rules at all and you are asking anyone for any advice.

The choice of a code of construction or repair is important ... It sounds like you are trying to repair/replace the tubes in a fired heater... Some background:
