I posted a problem before about the external translators not properly exporting assemblies with more than 2 levels. I've been doing some more experimentation and found that if I export an assembly in UG (NX5) using the "Entire Part" option, I get the same result as when I use the external translator (i.e. the assembly exports, but everything beyond the second level is missing and I have tried every combination of loadoptions.def settings with no luck). However, if instead of "Entire Part" I choose "Selected Objects", and then manually select the assembly, everythinjg exports fine. So I just wanted to know what the difference was when exporting Entire Part or Selected Objects, because that might shed some light on the problem. I looks to me that when "Selected Objects" is used, a temporary part file is created and exported.

Thanks.

I don't have a direct answer to your concern, and maybe what I am about to bring up was mentioned in your previous post . . . but just make sure the assemblies are loaded fully.
The external translator uses the defaults that are set in your NX session "load options.def" file, and many times thay are set to "partial loading"
You can go into the settings of the external translator and tweak that. In the IGES translator it is under edit > setings > assembly options

That was a problem at one time, but even when I do that, I get the same problems. In fact, when the components aren't fully loaded, it doesn't allow me to select them when I use the "Selected Objects" option. So when I open an assmebly in UG, and first export using the "Selected Objects" option, if everything exports poperly (which it does), then I know everything is fully loaded. But then I export the same assembly again using the "Entire Part" option, and I don't get the whole assembly exported.

It has always been unclear to me whether the translators use load latest if you have versioning rules defined. Apart from that it may be necessary to simply open and save your assembly structure. Once you know that you can do so then define the translation settings to meet your assembly loading requirements and save a settings file to use in all future cases. You may or may not choose at the same time to overwrite the system defaults.

We've posted an IR at Siemens about this problem (IR 1788431).
The method we use is export step from Entire Part giving us the complete assembly structure with correct names in the resulting stepfile. Load options have to be set to: Load all components and Partial loading 'off' (as default).
This worked fine in NX5/TC2007 Engineering environment.
In the new NX5/TC2007 Unified version it gives the result as described: only export to first level; all 'deeper' parts are empty. The same result from NX as from the UPM.
From native NX it works fine!

No solution yet for this problem....

If you are posting about translator problems knowing whether you're using Teamcenter is pretty much essential information!

I'm not using Teamcenter, this is all in native UG.
