Hi Guys,

Could you please share your views on below,

A PQR is qualified with impact test the requirements of UG-84(g) edition (2007), this edition requires only one set of impact test HAZ specimen to be tested.

Whereas the Ed 2013 of Div.1 requires HAZ to be tested as per the new requirements of Fig UG84.5 & Table UG 84.6, i.e there are requirements for depth, no of specimen etc.

Question here is , Can the PQR tested as per the 2007 edition be used for Ed 2013 ASME coded job?

After reading the paragraphs in question, I would have to say no, you will not be able to use the previously qualified PQR. However, what may be done is a new test plate welded to the same procedure and have the appropriate impact tests performed and a revision of the PQR issued. This would be an alternative to generating a completely new PQR.

Weld a supplementary test plate and conduct HAZ test as per current Section VIII Div 1 requirements

Thanks for your inputs.
The proposal is correct, need to supplement a test plate having impact tested to the requirements of Div.1 2013 Edition.
This also affect all the PQR of thickness more than 38 mm qualified previously to the requirements of UG-84 , now to be supplemented with two sets of HAZ impact test coupon to meet the requirements of Div.1 Ed 2013.
