Hi everybody!

I'm using Femap with NX Nastran 2019.1, Basic Module, and I'm wondering if the software is capable of perform impact analyses. I'm thinking on a heavy object (maybe 500 kg) falling from about 2 meters height to hit, for example, the concrete floor.

Is SOLVER 129 (Basic Non-linear Transient) the right one to make this kind of simulations? Or shall I use the module Dynamic Response (Don't have it)?

Recommended for you

SOL129 have limited contact suppord (can not model contact between 3D elements and faces of 2D elements). You can use GAP elements if object dont rotate after impact.
Othervice you need SOL401/402/601 or explicit SOL701.

Hi

What level of accuracy do you want to have? Do you want to include the non-linear responce of the concrete floor or do you think linear is enough?

I would probably start with a static approach and check the energy in the impact.

I don't think is has to be very complicated at all. At least not to start with.

Thank you karachun, this guide will help me a lot, for sure.

The object I am thinking to hit the floor has a flat bottom surface, in fact, it is a sheet. I may suppose that the object does not rotate before and after the impact, since I am only seeking for obtain the maximum principal stresses on the floor at the impact moment.

In fact I am not looking for a very accurate simulation at this time, I just wanted to get the maximum principal stress on the floor at the moment of the impact.

I currently actually have access to all the mentioned modules. But I would still start with the simple approach to get a first indication for the results [smile].
