Dear sir,

Good afternoon!!!.

Coming back, after long time period.
My query is : when the impact requirement is mandatory?.
At which temperature or from which temp. impact requirement is starts.
OR it depends on thickness of material?

Pls give the reference of code.

Regards
Prasad Rode

It depends on a lot of factors, the design code being the most important one to start with. Can you provide details on the applicable code youre using?

Hi
Definition of impact test requirements depends on the actual material grade, type of product, thickness, minimum temperature, pressure at minimum temperature vs. design pressure, heat treatment delivery conditions, construction code selection and interpretation...

if you refer to ASME BPVC VIII div.1, have a look at section UCS-66.

In addition to the above responses, the requirement for impact testing (which can include test temperature and acceptance results) can originate from either the material specification itself, from the applicable code of construction (API, ASME PV, EN or other pressure vessel code of construction) or by client specification.

Typically, the requirement for impact testing is based on lowest service or design temperature, and material type. Thickness of the component is also used to determine if impact testing is necessary based on the applicable code of construction.
