Impact Socket Material

I'm making a large impact socket and was planning on using 4340 for it, but wondering if either D2 or H13 tool steel would be any better for this application? I know they are strong but not sure which would take the impact better.

4340 is a good choice, d2 is also a good choice. Since it is for dies. I would go with which ever is more economical. Heat treat is a simple
And the material is very stable. Use mar quench in
Oil or salt, or gas quench. 4340

Not exactly the same thing roth. What I want to know is would it make sense to use either of these tool steels for an impact application? How do they compare with 4340 for taking an impact? I hadn't considered these before but now the heat treat guy is concerned about 4340 cracking during heat treat and offered these options.

Run from that heat treater, follow the procedures in AMS2759 /2 & /3
It's simple to heat treat

One trick is to cold stabilize after quench.
Preferred is liquid nitrogen. Or cold box.
Then double temper
