I want to use strictly xyz.csv file in that format only ( i.e csv) to import.I know i can do it thru spreadsheet, but i dont want to do it that way.... Iam unable to find any command for this..

You could first open the .csv (comma delimited text file) in MS Word and then do a 'Save-As' to a .txt file which can then be opened using the Drafting text editor in NX.

I would have thought that you could import that data into excel and that I'd read you can use it in a tabular note.

Hi John,

Your suggested action will created a note.. But I want to populate the table with the contents from the previous sheet.. If I can do a export of these contents into CSV format, why is there no path to inport it in the same format ... If I create a abc.csv file by using excel ... How can i insert the same as a table on to the drawing sheet?

What i want to achieve is that if i dont have MS office on my system I want to have a table to be put on the drawing sheet with the contents.. So I can use CSV format to do this.. I tried to find to import the CSV file.. but i found i have no way of doing it independently without the use of spreadsheet in the background..

Let me know if iam clear about my objective..

Thanks

NX has a spreadsheet packaged with it that you can use (Xess) if you do not have Excel installed. If you poke around in the preferences you can choose which spreadsheet you want to use.

You can go in and create you tabulated note and then select it and press MB3 and select the option, 'Edit using Spreadsheet'. When the spreadsheet comes up go to Data -> Import External Data -> Import Data... and select the .csv file and there will be a few questions about how you wish to parse the formatted data and once you've answered these questions (it's like a short Wizard) and you leave the spreadsheet and when asked, say that you wish to update the referenced Tabulated Note.

Hi John

But I dont want to use the spreadsheet option to import the csv file.. If Iam using a machine without MS WORD,Excel ,Spreadsheet not loaded on it, How can I achieve my objective.. I want to know if UGS has given option to export the contents of the table to csv format ... There should be a option to import into the table using csv format without selecting the import via spreadsheet option...

Hope iam clear as what i need ...

Thanks in advance

Maybe try to get Xess to work I thought it only ran on Unix machines, but look into it as cowski reports otherwise. But at some point if you don't have all the software you need you always need to obtain the tools to do the job. So if you don't want to buy MS Excel then you may create a program to read in what is after all a text file and create a set of lines and notes to produce the table that you want. Even Grip can still do that.

John,

Any small chance that something like Open office will ever inter-operate with NX alongside or instead of just the Microsoft standard. A lot of companies are adopting open standards where possible, we also have the problem that not all users have the luxury of having Office installed on their machines.

NX,

I'm sorry, but a spreadsheet interface requires a spreadsheet. Not wanting to use a spreadsheet, when probably 95+% of our customers has MS Office loaded on their PC's, is NOT going to be sufficient for us to start providing alternate schemes for every place that NX interfaces to a Microsoft product or uses an MS formated file.

As for support of 'open source' alternatives there are people who have suggested that and there is some investigations under way, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Hi Hudson,

Do you by any chance have that kind of program? Iam not into coding stuff ... so If you have any programs which can do this work for me ,it will be very helpful for me...

Thanks in advance...

I'm afraid that I don't have something specific for that but if you're willing to wait I may be able to dig up something similar among some old GRIP programs. They'd only be a starting point that you'd need to change so a GRADE license would be needed. So please post to tell me if you have access to that license first.

I'm a bit inconvenienced with system upgrades at the minute so I'll reiterate the plea.

If anyone is able to do something quicker or better please chime in.

Cheers

Hi Hudson,

I can wait... I have the GRADE license i guess... any idea how to get that info.. is it a module in the license file?

Thanks in advance

From windows Desktop, you don't need to start an NX session it runs outside the main application consisting of a compiler and a linker. You edit source code using a text editor like wordpad and save it to .grs extension and it gets compiled and linked to become .grx extension executables.

Start>UGS NX 5.0>NX Tools>NX Open Grip
