Did you try with different file format ? But most likely you will have to change something in the CAD model itself. It may have some defects that make it impossible to import to Abaqus.

Yes I tried all the different file formats and also with a simple model of a cube.

In such case there might be a large difference between SolidWorks and Abaqus versions or you are doing something wrong with export. Try importing the model to different CAD software, if you can.

I think the error might be in Abaqus because I tried to model a piece in Autodesk and I still got the same error

Which version of Abaqus do you use ? Did you try importing a step file downloaded from some internet databae ? Maybe you will have to reinstall Abaqus.

I tried today with a .step file from the internet and it still shows the same error. My version is the student edition - Abaqus 2019 Golden

I've found the reason of this error, it's caused by incomplete installation. The way to fix it is described in Dassault Systemes Knowledge Base article. Here's what you should do - open administrator command prompt and go to the following directory: C:\SIMULIA\CAE\2019SE\win_b64\code\bin\SMAExternal\Interop (assuming that you used default directory for installation). Now in the command prompt type: abaqus unzip -q -o InteropPkg.zip
It may take a few seconds but all missing files should be unpacked and you will be able to import parts properly.

Sorry for the delay answering you but that worked really well, thank you
