Import geometry problem 2

Hello to everyone,

I have a problem in importing a geometry from Siemens NX to FEMAP. In particular my CAD is constituted by an assembly.

First, if I try to import the .prt file directly from Siemens NX, no solids or sufaces are imported at all.

Then If I try to import in FEMAP environment a .stp file, some bodies are imported as solids (which is what I want) and others are imported as such "trim bodies" which I do not know what they are.

I have attached three screenshots in order to better explain what I mean.

Can someone help me to understand what is happening?

Dear Dan90,
The most reliable and efficient method to import geometry from NX is using Parasolid, forgot at all STEP or IGES. Regarding native files, is OK in general, if failing is because you are using a newer version of NX than the surpported by FEMAP. Simply is a question of Paraslid version, both NX and FEMAP are Parasolid based products, then you may know which Parasolid version support your FEMAP version. For instance, FEMAP V11.1.2 is based in Parasolid 26.1.

In summary, go to NX, open your assembly and do FILE > EXPORT > PARASOLID and choose version 26.1 and save your *.X_T file. Go to FEMAP V11.1.2 and import the file, you will be successfull at all!.

Best regards,
Blas.

Dear blas,

as always you are right! Yesterday I found out that when importing a .stp file FEMAP converts it into parasolid. So I tried to export the solid object from NX9 as parasolid file and it seems to be the correct choice.

However, after that Femap performs the import operation, a warning message appears which states that two surfaces have no facets.

Do you know what does that mean and how can I fix the problem?

Dear Dan90,
I note you are using an old version 11.0.1 of FEMAP, this could explain the errors you are having, try to load the geometry using the current version of FEMAP 11.1.2. But also it could be the problem from the NX side, the source geometry is not correct, then the error.

I run here the new FEMAP V11.2 Beta, if you upload the CAD model I can test importing the NX geometry in FEMAP V11.2 and tell you what I see, OK?.

Best regards,
Blas.

Dear Dan90,
The NX native geometry opens perfectly in FEMAP V11.2 beta. I note it includes an invalid surface#1138, I can simply delete it using command "Delete > Geometry > Surface" and the error message will not appear again (FEMAP locates always the invalid "surfaces with no faces" geometry at 0,0,0).

Well, the geometry is complex, if I open in NX10 I see that not history exist. But STAY TUNE: in next FEMAP V11.2 you will be able to manage this problem using midsurfaces and let FEMAP to assign varible elements thickness + OFFSET directly to the midsurface and update elements properly based in the 3-D solid geometry, simply issuing a command!!. But, what does it mean that surface 1138 has no faces?
With Femap 11.0.1 I can't simply delete it. Does it mean I will not be able to mesh the whole geometry?
