Hi all,

The six sigma methodologies is really helpful to deploy in petroleum refineries/chemical industries.Pl. find here with the attached article/document which talks about various tools/techniques which we can deploy in refinery process units to gain as maximum as possible.Anyone here who can share about deployment of these tools in any process units…..I would really appreciate that…

Thanks very much..

The paper only has soft tools. We used more Juran based tools, hard mathematical/statistical tools, SPC, Pardo charts, run charts, design of experiments.

Thanks dcasto,

Yes..these are really an excellent tools to deploy …Is it possible for you to share any case studies ..

Thanks very much in advance to you…

No, I didn't work on any that were published. Our consultant QualPro may have some papers Read about Dr Juran and Dr Demming.

In my organization we developed the risk base inspection and we have the API software to deal with it, based in API RP 580.

The output of this approach is base in likelihood and consequence of equipment failure, this way we got a risk matrix for each equipment and we can focus end optimize our resources in the more critical ones.

To optimize this asset integrity we are now crossing our RBI matrix with a risk management matrix based in Impacts and likelihood.

This way we can rank our equipment risk in the management matrix and tune our risk.

This is my share

Oh..yes,

dcasto & 0707,

Failure Mode effect analysis -FMEA & QFD is also one of the good six sigma tools which one can deploy..I have just gone through qualproinc..really intresting one..

As 0707 mentioned, RPN = severity x occurance x detectability is really vital tool..any buddy has implemented Design for six sigma -DFSS project in chemical/petroleum refinery units..apart from DMAIC project.

Thanks...

0707, i'm not trying to hijack the thread, is your risked based program related to the DOW Chemical proceedures as published by Kent Mulberry? Did you see a lot of resistance to it's implimentation? Did everyone want to argue the risk weighting factors or ask you to prove the risk factor.

I've been fighting for almost 12 years now.

dcasto

Our risk based programme is according Risk-based Inspection API RECOMMENDED PRACTICE 580
FIRST EDITION, MAY 2002.
