Hi,
I am having trouble importing an IGES file into ANSYS, version 6, from Autodesk Inventor. I am importing a 3-d solid model of a box girder bridge. When I try to import the IGES file into ANSYS, the solid model imports the file with many gaps and it does not import as a solid, but as several 2-d plates.

I am getting an error message that the lines/surfaces may be twisted.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I try to import it as a SAT file? Is SAT better than IGES?

Try Parasolid (*.x_t) if you can, works much better than IGES.

Thank You,
Unforunately, I don't have that export option out of "Autodesk Inventor" Is it possible with Autodesk Inventor?

I've decided to create the model from scratch using ANSYS, and I'm having difficulty doing that as well (see above post).

Hi! Please try this: Save your model from Autodesk Inventor, then import your it into Rhinoceros ( and then save it in the format you need (SAT or .x_t or ...). It could work.
SAT is indeed always better than IGES.

hi

u will always get problem in creating the solid model in ansys, besides, u can do one thing is that get model into ansys with iges or sat file, then u will always get the surfaces, so in the ansys make the vol using surfaces & pick all the surfaces.

after that check ur model carefully, if it is ok then good, otherwise go for the model repair, this mah be comparatively easier.
hope this will help
