increase heat transfer in a bed of SiC

Hello All
Can anyone please suggest me how can i increase heat transfer in a reactor bed filled with SiC(1-2mm particle size).The heating element is on top of the reactor attaining a temp of 250°C at the top layer.The reactor length is 450 mm and diameter 270 mm.Thanks in advance.

Not much detail in your question. If your need is to heat, not cool, the SiC, a clever way is to apply microwaves. SiC is very absorptive of microwave energy.

The reactor is being heated by microwave but there is a big temperature gradient between the top and bottom layer.

Can this bed be fluidized? Is there water in the system? If so, I'd say recirculate fluid from the top and inject it into the bottom. Churn it up!
