FPA13/14 specify like o&Y gate valve as indicative valve.i am wondering if butterfly valve with lever handle without switch can be a indicative valve ,work as control valve when lock open in water sypply to standpipe or spinkler system?this type is much cheaper. Could please someone help to clarify this. it is highlt appreciated.

Is the valve UL Listed for Fire Protection? Does the valve have an FM Diamond on it?

If it does then you are good to go... if it is simply a level handle, if I understand correctly, it probably isn't.

The problem with the lever-type valves is that they don't meet the 5 second 'slow close' requirement of 13-13 6.7.1.2 that the hand wheel valves do, and therefore aren't permitted to be used as indicating control valves in sprinkler or standpipe systems.

Many thanks for your kind reply.
i do know that butterfly vlave with eletric switch can be called indicative valve.if not with swich. UL list is good to go,this approach is safer.
