Dear All,

I have question about designing pfc boost inductor,
I would like to build pfc boost inductor with auxiliary winding. for my SMPS 100khz.
Its the first time for me,
I am confused about choosing the right magnetic core.
There is toroidal, E core, ER corewhich one is the best?
and if you have some references about designing the pfc design. it would be nice..
and what is actually the auxiliary winding? is it just adding winding in secondary side?

thank you..

Amidon ( has some nice cores for winding your own inductors, and lots of good educational material in their catalog. The catalog isn't as user friendly since it moved to the web, but it should give you a good start.

The Ferroxcube site has a good data book for their cores. You should look for the book 'Soft Ferrites' by Edgar Snelling, it is 'the' reference book on the subject: even though it is was written a fair few years ago the analysis he presents is still the most lucid I've read.
