Industrial Electricity and Motor Controls by R. Miller...Good?

I'm looking to purchase a book about Electrical Engineering in power industry. With well written concepts relating to real world problems and is written in a way that isn't cut and dry. I'm thinking of the one above. I would like comments about it from engineers from here, not Barnes & Noble or Amazon. Thanks

This is a book written primarily for technicians, not engineers. It says so in the preface.

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips.

xnuke is right, it intends to technician or industrial electrician per se. But looking up the contents it's good actual introduction of what are the things happening in the industrial/electrical workplace..focusing on hand-owns experience. Good point is it would be as a Self-taught book
though it has less emphasis on what you're looking for as "Electrical Engineering in power industry", it only covers Chapter 8 transformer and chapter 9 power generation.

There's faq238-1287 on this subject. Personally I like the Modern Power Station Practice series which covers pretty much every aspect of thermal generating plant plus a fair bit of transmission system operation and control in detail. It is an expensive set.

Thanks alot guys. i wont be purchasing that one then. Currently I am involved with the power and controls in Water treatment plants. I have the Metcalf & Eddy but it is based primarily on the biological process and has slight iterations of the equipment involved. So I'll try to find literature relating to the equipment involved in those systems.I hope to find a couple titles that might be winners and repost. Im looking for something similar to "Electric Motor Control by Van Nostrand Reinhold". this book was written in 1975 so im looking for something a little more updated. Does not have to involve water industry really, just a good breakdown of the major equipment. Substations, Med Voltage , MCC, SWGR, VFD.

A good start try inexpensive Electrical Power Engineering Reference and Application Handbook..its contents were concise excerpt from different standards like IEC, IIEE, ANSI, etc.. this gives a good breakdown of such equipment you're looking for.
