Using ASCE 7-10, SDC D, we have an industrial mezzanine with a DL < 20 psf, height = 20 ft., which requires 3 to 4 ft trusses due to long spans. What is your opinion based on code if OMF is allowed? The allowance in ASCE 7 allows it for a roof with DL < 20 psf and height < 65 ft. A mezzanine is not a roof, but could this allowance justify the use of an OMF for a single story mezzanine?

You micht be able to make a case for this if the mezzanine structure was no part of the main building structure under 12.2.5.7. Otherwise, no.
