I have what seems to be a simple structural design for a industrial shelving pipe rack. I am trying to find some sort of specification (ANSI / OSHA) that specifies design loads that would be required to rate the rack for a given capacity.

This is a simple 8' tall pipe rack, with less than 5,000 lb capacity. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a general American standard for designing / rating industrial shelving or racks?

Thank you very Much!

I am not sure if there is a minimum. Mezzanine storage is typically 250 psf - I think. Look it up. Grocery Store racks are obviously quite different than steel service center racks. BUT I do know whatever load you decide - it must be obviously well posted to try to protect against over loads.

ASCE 7-10 refers to storage racks being designed to ANSI/RMI HM 16.1 which is put out my the Material Handling Association. I haven't seen the document but it may be a good place to start [glasses]
