Hi all,

I am a recent graduate in electrical engineering. I graduated about a year and half ago and I am interested in building ma career in the electrical and instrumentation field. I was wondering if i can get some guidance from you guys. I am currently working in an engineering company but dont have any engineering related position just yet. However there are lots of possibilities that i can be able to sink in the elec & instr field. Now, I am seeking for some guidance to build my career in this field. For those of you who are an engineer in this field how do u suggest I go by utilizing my education?

Thank you in advance!

So, what have you been doing for the last 1.5 years?

If you want to get into instrumentation and electrical, I would suggest you first get into one or the other. These two fields, although often lumped together, are quite large individually.

For someone who is starting out, I would recommend picking one, and stay with it for a few years, then going to the other.

Ashereng,
Thank you for your response. Well, I actually had some difficulties in finding a job since i didnt have any experince as being a new grad. As I mentioned earlier I might have a good chance of joining the electrical and instru. group at ma present employer. That is why I want to prepare my self for the challenge that I will be facing once I joined them. The only problem is they dont really have much electrical application mostly instrumentation. Any more inputs?

Thanks again.

If instrumentation is what they do, and you are interested, then by all means I think you should go into instrumentation.

Instrumentation does interface with electrical - mostly on home run cables, powere to devices and in the cabinets. So, you may get some exposure to what electrical deals with on a job.

Like I said before, if you do go into instrumentation, do spend a few years there before moving on. This way, you will get a chance to learn things in some depth.
