Does anyone know the basic chemical composition of the ink used in ink jet printers?

There are many different types - but here is Xerox's dry ink cartridge. Other MSDS's for a particular brand may be obtained directly from the manufacturer.

Myles,

Are you sure this is an inkjet ink? It looks more like a dry toner for copiers.

If you want specific info on inkjet inks, try searching for some patents. I believe you have to pay now to see the complete patent text but at least you can get started with the first page.

There are a lot of types of inks: water based, solvent based, UV-curable...

Greetings,

Olivier

can somebody please tell me the composition of a standard inkjet printer's ink(black). the dye and the solvent at least.
akku555@rediffmail.com

First, what is your objective for the ink? Then you can information about the ink that fits that objective. Otherwise, there are many options as to what is in the ink for inkjets.
The best source for inkjet composition is the manufacturer of the ink; HP, Epson, Brother, IBM, etc. Ask for the MSDS and they must give it to anyone in industry. There are many dyes, inks, solvents, pigments with different characteristics for UV resistance, water or oil resistance, durability, drying speed, resistance to spreading out (big problem with eary inks for inkjets).
