Input: planar or 3D elastic constants?

Hi everyone,

I want to assign material properties to plane strain elements. As the elastic constants for plane strain condition are different from 3D values, should the Abaqus input be the planar values or 3D values?

I have no idea how the elastic constants can be different. They are a material property and as such are the same whether in 2D plane strain or in 3D.
