Does anyone know how to insert the actual computer DATE in the drafting layout/page automaticly when I create a new drawing? This way every time I plot the drawing, the page shows me the date I´ve done it.

Is there a way to print the plot date on this page as well?

thanks!

What you want to do is define and use a 'Plot Banner'. You define the contents of the Banner in Customer Defaults and then when you plot, you have the option, in the section of the dialog titled 'Banner', of toggling the Banner 'ON, adding some specific message which you will get along with the contents of the banner, which can including any of the following items and can be placed anywhere on the drawing:

User Name
Node Name
Job Name
Date
Time
The 'message' you entered when you launched the plot task
Part Name
Part Name and Revision
Part Path
Drawing Sheet Name
Drawing Sheet Scale

Any of these items can be included or excluded, and the resulting note can be formated as up to 3 lines long, and when you launch the plot task, you have the opportunity to define the character size used as well as the location on the drawing along with any specific 'message' that you may wish to include in the formated note that will be added to the plotted drawing.

John,

The plot banner didn´t work very well for me... I want the date to be put on my drafting layout in a defined position. Is there a grip that does this trick?

Thanks!
Fernando

I have a GRIP program but it requires the use of my custom drawing templates where I've predefined all of the text fields with 'null' notes linked to the values of Part attributes. All the GRIP program does is create a series of Part attributes that are then inherited by the drawing template(s).

John,

I believe that what he is asking for is an "auto-text" feature. I don't recall the name and I'll have to dig the information out.

This is something that we've had in our drawing patterns and a grip script would be used to popuplate it. We also have a grip script that's used the add a revision to the drawing which would also update this date.

Mind you we're also still using NX1.

To get around this there's text entries that you can put in your templates that look something like

<W$=@DATE>

I can't seem to find my list of what's available at this time however I know that there are ones that you can use that will take the file name and populate it in as the drawing number, the current sheet number, the total number of sheets, and date.

I don't know if this is just an NX5 thing or when it appeared. We're trying to use this in combination with templates to get away from patterns and grip as much as possible.

The only problem that I forsee with this is that when he goes to print the drawing whether or not the date will update. i.e. sinico creates a drawing on 1/1/2006. He opens it up today to print it, will the auto-text update it to todays date prior to plotting?

Thanks,

Brian

<W@$SH_SHEET_NUMBER> - Sheet number of the current sheet

<W@$SH_NUMBER_OF_SHEETS> - Number of sheets in the current part

<W@$SH_SHEET_SCALE_NUMERATOR> - Numerator of the sheet scale

<W@$SH_SHEET_SCALE_DENOMINATOR> - Denominator of the sheet scale

<W@$SH_SHEET_SIZE> - Size of the current sheet

<W@$SH_SHEET_UNITS> - Units of the current sheet

<W@$SH_SHEET_PROJECTION_ANGLE> - Projection angle symbol of the current sheet

That's from the drafting help files. I need to find the date still.

<W@$SH_MASTER_PART_NAME> - Master Model drawing sheet part name

<W@$SH_PART_NAME> - Sheet part name

John & Brian,

Thanks a lot for all the help!

Finally my drafting layout is customized the way I want! I mixed a little of both, using the auto-texts and plotter banner! Now my drawings have all the info they need to!

Thanks again!
