Inspection Dimensions in Solidworks

Does anyone know where the Oval originates from on an Inspection Dimension in Solidworks?

The Oval doesn't exist in any ANSI or AMSE book that I can find or anyone I have talked with about this. I have went back to 1988 ANSI and nothing...Maybe I'm missing something here, but I can't seem to find an answer for this.

Anyone have an Idea?

I think the "inspection dimension" bubble in SW is actually derived from a DIN standard, but I don't know the number.

Here is what I finally found out.

The reason SW has the ovals around the inspection dimensions is because a long time ago a large company wanted those ovals there and it just stayed there. The company was of course buying SW at the time.

It isn't an ANSI standard that I know of or any standard that I'm aware of. Maybe a distant form of a DIN standard. That supports this option.

Scott, my interpretation, especially working wit MD, is that ovals are actually mirrored ellipses. . When I spec. its always major/minor axis with a c/l. This works for my job but not the standard your looking for. I give the little gray cells a chance to work on it.
