Install Bow Thruster to Inland Cargo Vessels later - POSSIBLE??

Dear Experts,

I am very new to this field. I have a query. One of my clients wants to purchase some small inland cargo vessels of the following specifications. I found a number of vessels, but they did not have Bow thrusters. My question is, Is it possible to install one on these old vessels, even an external one? If yes, which companies and what specification/power should I look for. I am sorry, I may sound like a total idiot to many experts here, but I would like to learn. Thank you so much.

One of our clients is looking for 3 (three) refurbished/second hand small inland container feeder vessels of the following specification or similar for immediate purchase:

1. Length must be less than 83 M
2. Width must be less than 15 M
3. Full load draft must be less than 5.5 M
4. Air draft restriction 16 M (vessel has to cross under a bridge,) max height water level to bridge 16 M
5. Container carrying capacity must be 130 TEU++
6. Vessel must be built under International Classification society (CCS, GL, BV, ClassNK etc…..)
7. Should have bow thruster
8. Year of built must not be older than 1995
9. 2000+ DWT

I just went on-line and made a query about bow thrusters. James Distributor advertises a whole bunch of them. Check them out and other listings.

@chicopee-I see a lot of bow thruster supplier, but my question is firstly, can i install a bow thruster on an old cargo vessel?

Seems to me that it would horrifically expensive, wouldn't it. You'd have to drydock it, gut the bow, possibly rebuild/redesign the structural infrastructure, arrange for power and control to the thruster. That said, it appears to be possible, but that presumably depends on your ship

Without a proper reflection of the design modifications,
i expect you will get problems with class. This will not be a cheap trick. I would contact one or more of the big players in this area. ZF-Marine is one I know well, but there are others.

Bow thrusters are a dime a dozen, what you need is a qualified ship yard that can modify your vessels.
Where in the world are you intending to carry out these modifications.

It is not the thruster that is worrying me, its the modifications necessary to the shhip. Bow thrusters are hell with regards to vibration and noise. Such modifications need serious looking into.

This type of thruster may do what you are looking for without too much modification of the vessel.
