I have a project of transmission water pipe line (Carbon steel pipe , 12 " ) , the length of pipeline is about 10km , my concern is about the number of air release valves that shoub be installed through the pipeline , does it depend on distances or the profile of pipeline only , I mean do we have to install ARV every certain distance , for example 500m , 1km , or what ever . or it is only depends on the allignment and profile of pipeline where we have significan change of pipeline elevation ?

Air Release Valves function to release air pockets that collect at each high point of a full-pressured pipeline. Air Release Valves are essential for pipeline efficiency and water hammer protection. So you should be aware of pipeline profile high points and pump debits at start-ups
