Can pile installer visually see how many strands are in a concrete pile? Should pile installer verify type of piles before he installs them? Does pile installer sign off on piles upon delivery of piles? Is pile installer responsible for installing wrong piles? Does he assume any responsibility for installing the wrong piles?

A lot depends on the terms of the contract. Here are my experiences:

1. See the strands? Not with enough accuracy to be meaningful.

2. Verify pile types? Yes, up to a point, check the dimensions with a tape measure. Check shipping documentation to see if the "paper trail" looks correct.

3. Sign off on pile delivery? Yes, but usually to just to verify receipt of truck (barge, rail) delivery.

4. Responsible for wrong pile installation? I have had it go either way - if the Engineer's representative accepted the pile, No. If the pile was not correctly positioned (for example), Yes.

5. Contractor assume responsibility (liability?) for wrong pile? If accepted by the Engineer's representative, No.
