Is there the option to integrating a SW model with an architectural environment. For example a Sketchup model.

I understand you can set a SW model against a 2D photo.

xtract,

What is an architectural model?

You can save a SolidWorks model as JPEG, and integrate it using Photoshop or the GIMP. If someone is running AutoCAD, you can generate DXF files, and create blocks.

Hi Drawoh,

It seems inappropriate to build an architectural model in SW. Maybe put a SW model into a Google sketchup architectural 3D model. I'm sure it would work using 3Dmax but thats too much trouble I just want a simple SU model but with the accuracy of SW engineering for the subject.

xtract,

I think it is possible to do architectural model in SolidWorks. If you paid for the software, why not use it? I think the weldment feature would work better for wooden stud frames than it does for welded metal.

Any 3D model ought to be massively dependent on what decisions you want to make, and what documentation you want to generate.

The primary argument for not using SolidWorks is that you do not want to pay the thousands of dollars to acquire the software license.

xtract, I was looking for the same thing this week. I designed a table in SW for a customer, then wanted to drop it into a Sketchup model to play with the layout where the table was going. I couldn't find a way to do this. Earlier versions of Sketchup let you bring in a dxf file to build from, but that ended at least with version 8, except for Sketchup Pro. There may be a way to do this using Blender to convert between file types, but I haven't played there for a while.

Good luck. Diego
