Intelligent Pigging for Coated pipeline

I am designing a 9 KM pipeline for oil and water services, this line will then be converted into an oil service only, it is a 24 inch in diameter, TK 236 material.

for maintenance purposes, sphere pigging is not recommended with coated pipe. is the intelligent pigging suitable for such pipes?

or should we plan to flush the line periodically ?

Yes you can run an intel through it.
I would put connections for temporary launchers and receivers.
Permanent launchers and receivers for intel on a 9 km pipeline seems like a waste of money. Just MO.

You can run maintenance pigs through internally coated pipelines with no problems. Just make sure it is a non-aggressive polyurethane pig, work with your local pigging vendor. We run maintenance pigs all the time through internally coated lines. Do not use any type of brush pig, or pig with metal body or you will damage the coating. Specifically a sphere pig is non aggressive and usually polyurethane, but there are better pigs than sphere pigs, we normally don't use these. I don't know specifically what your coating type is or details on your sphere pig.
For smart pigging, it is possible to use these on internally coated pipelines, but you have to be very careful and work with your ILI vendor. I would assume you would be running an MFL pig, these pigs have metal brushes which will scrape the coating, and also the sensors themselves will scrape the coating. The tool can be modified to remove the brushes, or use poly brushes, and also they will adjust the sensor stand off distance. If you don't let them know it is internally coated you will most likely damage your coating. An MFL pig would be more agressive to coating than a softer polyurethane maintenance pig.
 
The TK-236 is a novolac epoxy developed for OCTG. It's a pretty hardy coating when applied correctly. If the transported fluid is oil and water, flushing is not going to help much on the integrity front; there will need to be more validation than that. The first stop in the inspection planning will be the regulations applying in that part of the world. What corrosion monitoring is to be applied?
