Boy, this seems to by my week for stupid little problems, that probably have a quick and easy solution that I already know, but can't seem to fathom anymore.
In a ProE relation that runs a graph, I have a multitude of symbols called out, that USED to work, but now, when I try to save the relation, I get the error message:
/* ERROR: Invalid symbol '<my symbol>' found.

for - every - single - one - of - them !!!! Ugh!

When the original graph was saved WITH a working relation, I could replace anything in that relation with no problem, later on. But when I saved a version of the graph (a "virgin" graph) with a BLANK relation, that is when the problem started. When I open it to add new contents to the relation I get the error. It really would make life easier to have a saved version of the graph w/o the attendant relation, for various reasons.

My head hurts, my brain hurts, my mind has become constipated. PLEASE HELP!

Do you have this set in your config file

pro_symbol_dir - set and automatically create the default directory for saving and retrieving user-defined symbols. if you do not specify a directory, the system uses the current working directory. use full path name to avoid problems.

Treddie,

Your graph calls for parameters that does not exist anynmore.

Cut all your relations (CTRL-X). Then create all parameters (and let them with the value 0) used in your relations. Then
paste (CTRL-V)the old relations from computer's memory. Now the graph will assign the values to your parameters.

Jeez! I figured it out. And it WAS a stupid move on my part.
I was attempting to open the graph's .sec file without FIRST telling ProE that I was building a graph...I just opened it directly and ProE was telling me, "Yah...and your point is?...". I'd paste in the relation and ProE would say, "Whatever...". Thanks for the replies, though. Much appreciated. They are going into my resolutions file for future reference.

Thanks again.

So Pro/E talks to you, too? Glad I'm not the only one. When I feel like Pro/E is really making me mental I go to the gym and do 20 minutes on the bike or go for a jog...

I find that when I come back the answer usually comes out of hiding (especially if I post the question on Eng-Tips before I leave :) )

Yah, exactly! The problem I hate is when I THINK I can't solve it, so I bug someone else, only to find that RIGHT after I post my message, I figure it out.

Guys,

Just something I found of great help when learning Pro-E;

Open up a spreadsheet (MS Excel) and record evrything new you discover how to do, step by step, and I mean step by step.

You would be amazed how helpful it is an a few weeks time.

I really thnk that Pro-E is very non-intuitive. The help files are dire also. But having said that, it is a powerful package when you figure out how to use it.

My twopence worth!![frog]

Speedy,

That's a good tip. I did that when I started doing more complex models and assemblies. I have a lot of data that I've downloaded from websites. This forum has helped me a lot over the last couple of years.

Heckler, Speedy:
I totally agree. Even though ProE is the most complex program I have ever had to learn, and is anal about a lot of things that could be done easier, I just can't see going with anything else. Too damn powerful. But ProE is the ONLY program that I have EVER had to copy down procedures for future use; and like you said, step-by-step. I have a huge "ProEcedures" folder, with my own procedures and a ton of stuff off of the INet. I would be lost on many occasions without the forums. And I've been using ProE since 2000i2! Never tried the Excell method, though. PTC needs a better accounting of so much in their Help system. And I just LOVE the one when a Regen fails and you go to find out why, and it says something like, "Regen failed." Thanks for the added info, PTC.
But criticsm aside, I love the program. PTC just needs to help out more.
