We recently purchased a LightWeld XR machine from IPGphotonics. Im trying to write a WPS in compliance with ASME Sec.IX. Couple of things im struggling with is confirmation of weld process (LBW or LLBW) and how to address fillet welds. The link below takes you to the IPGphotonics web site for more info.
The rig uses a laser as the heat source, filler metal wire feed, and shielding gas. The representative from the company indicated that the usable settings for the machine would result in Keyhole welding, but i just wanted to sanity check him on here as i don't know much about laser welding. Would this likely be keyhole welding with the addition of filler metal and the power / spot size specs listed on the website?
For LBW does QW-202.2(c) take precedents over the joint geometry requirements of QW-215.1, the base metal thickness requirements of QW-403.35, & the filler metal cross section requirements of QW-404.1 in regards to fillet welds?
