Is a flexible hose (pipe) allowed as a fuel level indicator?

Hi

I think to remember that plastic or rubber hoses (maybe they are called tubes or pipes) used to "read" the fuel level of the motor of a fire pump are not allowed. Am I right? If so, could someone please tell me the code (and paragraph if possible) where this is forbidden?

The fuel level in a fire pump is gauged. This means one uses a sight glass, a liquid transmitter connected to Human/Machine interface, or a simple clock gauge based on the tank.

Excuse me if I didn't explain myself correctly. By plastic or rubber hose I meant to ask if these are allowed as sight glasses or if as the name implies, such visual level aids must be made out of glass.

My 2013 edition of NFPA 20 says "Means other than sight tubes for continuous indicating of the amount of fuel in each storage tank shall be provided."
In other words sight glasses whether plastic or glass are not permitted.
